NCTE released the Draft (Recognition Norms & Procedure) Regulations, 2025, which include detailed norms and standards for nine teacher education programs. This draft is currently open for public consultation.
As part of aligning with NEP 2020, one‑year B.Ed and M.Ed programs are being reintroduced from the 2026–27 academic year, but only for candidates with a four-year undergraduate degree or a master’s degree.
Draft norms require that both one‑year programs must include school internships, field experiences, and practice teaching. Admission will be conducted via a common test by the National Testing Agency (NTA), applicable across all B.Ed and M.Ed formats.
The ITEP (Integrated Teacher Education Programme) offers a four‑year dual degree—BA.BEd, BSc.BEd, or BCom.BEd—combining subject and teacher training in one course.
Approximately 15,000 standalone B.Ed colleges must transform into multidisciplinary institutions by 2028, or alternatively merge or collaborate with nearby higher education institutions within 10 km.
The ITEP model has already been piloted in 42 institutions (including IITs, NITs), and is being expanded to central and state universities and other colleges.
All Teacher Education Institutions were instructed to submit Performance Appraisal Reports (PARs) for the academic years 2021–22 and 2022–23, with deadline November 10, 2024. These reports were essential for regulatory compliance.
Due to non-submission of PARs, the NCTE withdrew recognition from nearly 300 B.Ed colleges in Maharashtra, barring them from admitting students in the 2025–26 session
