Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India is organizing a Panel Discussion on Olympism with the theme Significance of Olympic Renaissance in India on 6th August 2022 from 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM at Speaker Hall Annexe, Constitution Club of India, Rafi Marg, New Delhi – 01. The event is also part of the yearlong Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations.

About the Event:

As we are aware that India’s Olympic Journey has gone through various ups and downs, there have been moments of glory but we have never been able to establish ourselves as a top-ranking country despite immense potential. There may be several reasons for that including inadequate infrastructure, especially at grassroots levels. But the basic reason is that there is no awareness about the Olympics, hence there is not much interest among children for this world event.

Developing sports culture is a process and that should be started now, therefore the first step should be the execution of an aggressive Olympics awareness program at the school and university levels. Our Youth should be aware of the basics such as what are the games in Olympics, its history, India’s Journey in Olympics, how athletes prepare for the Olympics etc., and last but not least we need to make our youth aware of success stories despite all odds.
