Event Overview

The Major Dhyan Chand Rashtriya Khel Mohatsav 2025 is a nationwide sports festival dedicated to honoring the legacy of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary, observed as National Sports Day.

This large-scale celebration will be held across more than 250 cities and districts of India, with the direct participation of over one million individuals and the engagement of more than ten million citizens through community activities, spectatorship, and digital platforms.

The Mohatsav aims to:

  • Promote grassroots sports participation and fitness culture.

  • Identify emerging sporting talent across urban, semi-urban, and rural areas.

  • Revive India’s traditional and indigenous games alongside modern sports disciplines.

  • Strengthen national unity through sports as a tool for social cohesion, cultural integration, and community development.


Sports and Activities

The Mohatsav offers a diverse program of mainstream and indigenous sports, complemented by community-driven initiatives.

Mainstream Sports: Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Hockey, Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Cycling, Shooting, Weightlifting, Gymnastics, Handball.

Indigenous and Traditional Sports: Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Mallakhamb, Kalaripayattu, Silambam, Thang-Ta, Gatka, Traditional Rural Games, Yoga.

Community and Engagement Activities:

  • Mass fitness drills and yoga sessions.

  • Awareness rallies and fitness walks with messages on health, anti-drug campaigns, and gender equality.

  • Felicitation of local coaches, teachers, and grassroots sports icons.

  • Drawing, essay, and slogan writing competitions with themes on sports, unity, and national pride.

  • Health camps and career counseling in sports sciences and education.


Academic and Thought Leadership

In addition to sports competitions, the Mohatsav will serve as a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange.

  • National Sports Conclave: A thought-leadership forum featuring policymakers, Olympians, sports scientists, and education experts.

  • Youth Sports Conferences and Townhalls: Local-level discussions among students, parents, and teachers on the importance of physical education, challenges for athletes, and community support in nurturing sports talent.

The Rashtriya Khel Mohatsav will:
