About National Sports Day

On 29th August India celebrates its National Sports Day to pay the tribute to great Hockey player Major Dhyanchand (29 August 1905 – 3 December 1979). He was an Indian field hockey player, who is widely considered as the greatest field hockey player of all time. Major Dhyan Chand is most remembered for his extraordinary goal-scoring feats, in addition to earning three Olympic gold medals (19281932, and 1936) in field hockey, during an era where India was the most dominant team in Hockey.

PEFI's Contribution for the National Sports Day 

Every Year Physical Education Foundation of India celebrates the National Sports Day nationwide by organizing the events. This year PEFI, in association with Kooh Sports, State chapters, various institutions/organization is going to organize “NATIONAL SPORTS DAY CELEBRATION” by paying its tribute to Major Dhyanchand on 29th August 2017 and to create awareness about the National Sports Day in 251 Major Cities of India including all Metropolitan Cities.

The main objective of organizing this event is to promote Mission Olympic 2020 and celebrate the National Sports Day all over the country. PEFI appeals to our all to all the Schools, Colleges, Institutions, Departments, Universities, Organizations, NGOs to  join hands and support this event to achieve its goals of organizing Celebration of National Sports Day event in 251 cities.

Main Objectives are: 

•Sharing the joy of health & fitness for better lifestyle.
•To make the importance of Sports.
•To address the issues faced by sports persons , PE professionals providing.
•The celebrations emphasis on recognition of the Senior Sports Persons as individuals in the family & society
